Just as we say good bye to the holidays it seems we enter into another party season. January and February are filled with things like award shows and the Super Bowl as well as other events. The internet is all abuzz with the latest trends in party planning and appetizers. I do love finding new party foods but I have learned my lesson about trying too many new things for the one event. So for me I find it is important to have a selection of standard tried and true recipes that I can default to for parties. And one of those recipes is my baked Brie. This recipe is an old standard for me and it is also a big food weakness of mine. I actually have to limit this to a party to make sure I don’t overindulge. This simple dish is easy to prepare and is a real crowd pleaser. It is great with fresh bread or crackers.
What is your simple, go to appetizer for parties?
Cranberry and Pecan Baked Brie
1 round Brie cheese
1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
3 Tbsp cranberry sauce
handful of chopped pecans
As we are coming up to Super Bowl weekend I decided I wanted to share one of my favorite easy appetizers as a simple solution for any occasion. It was one of those snacks that my mom would make when I was a kid that no matter how much she would prepare there just never seemed to be enough. It was the first thing I put on my list of foods I wanted at my wedding. And the great thing about it is that it is so simple to make that there are no excuses to not do it.
As we approach the season of parties for things like the Super Bowl and the Oscars we come to the dilemma of finding a way to serve amazing appetizers and yet not kill every healthy resolution we have entered into. One of my favorite calorie crusher is queso dip. Now pretty much every recipe you find is all going to include the infamous Velveeta cheese, which in all honesty is a crime against cheese. And with 66% of the fat per serving coming from saturated fat it is a huge calorie violator. So this year I was inspired by my mom to try a healthier version of this wonderful melted cheese dip. And the great thing about it is how incredibly easy it is to make. It is also has 1/4 of the calories of a traditional recipe.
